The plans for Stoneleigh had to be hastily revised due to David Gittins having a very serious mountain bike accident which resulted in Tony and Ros not attending with the caravan. So, the Tempest stayed at home and Yo drove the pickup as back up vehicle. The poor weather forecast probably put a few people off but there were eight brave souls camping (Greg Stafford and Brad, Colin McColl, Ian and Rebecca Swift, and Andy Smith) and several members who visited for the day. Visitors included David who was ferried over by Tony, two broken arms and nose not withstanding. In fact, the rain only appeared at night and a bit on the way home on Monday, so it didn’t interfere with the show or tent putting up and down.
There were as many trade stands as usual and it seemed like more cars parked, but the area had been condensed a bit. A few happy hours were spent inspecting the latest kits on offer and all the amazing bits and pieces that are so useful but you don’t actually need them at the moment. We didn’t get anything on our list but on impulse bought socks, large cable ties and a tent. We tried badgering GTM to get a move on with our car and reminded Intatrim that we were waiting for new Tempest seats. Don’t know what the others bought but Tony was seen with a small steel bar.
No entertainment from Ian building a cheap barbecue this year as they had a posh one. In fact we all got fed pretty well without setting anything on fire or burning ourselves. After dinner we went to the entertainment hall and had one pint but it was so noisy, poor beer and high prices that by unanimous decision we retired to the Brown’s canvas pub and opened cans. Colin McColl was one up as he had brought a fridge and had cold beer. The craic was brilliant and in another league from second rate disco in a room with the acoustics of a cattle shed.
