On Sunday the weather finally
started to pick up
- the best day since our run to the Horseshoe Pass on 1st April! 5 cars
met at Nesscliffe Services, including Gandi and Sam, members from
Northampton. Then 3 more joined us at Lydham and it was a stunning
drive down to Shobdon. We met 23 members of the Kent Phoenix in 11
cars, the sun came out, the aeroplanes came in and out, and Gandi
bought a flight in one of the dolly flying things. Everyone enjoyed the
superb buffet put on by the Aero Club. There was a slight hiatus when
the Birkin ran over the parking attendant`s coffee mug. Then, having
parked, smoke was seen rising from under the bonnet! Fortunately, it
was soon extinguished. The only explanation was that the navigator
(yes, me again) had pushed the lighter in and held it there with the
road map such that it overheated and the insulation started to burn
before the fuse went. Hereford Aero Club had a Film Festival on over
the weekend so members of Kent Phoenix were going to spend the
afternoon watching old wartime films in the hanger.
The drive back
through, Knighton & Clun to Minsterley was breathtakingly
beautiful
- you can keep your baking beaches - there is nothing to compare with a
sunny spring day in the Welsh Borderlands. Many thanks to Shobdon for
looking after us so well and we hope that those of you who were not
able to be with us on Sunday will be able to come to the Aero Festival
on Saturday 23rd June.
