Despite threatening skies and blustering winds, followed by torrential rain and hail, about twenty ShACC members, including 4 newcomers, made the trip across to Wellington to meet the boys and girls (with one very Junior Member) of the Hagley Light Car Club for our annual Motoring Quiz.
As always, Tony and David Gittins had put on an excellent brain-wracking do – how many place names given to different models of cars over the years can any of you remember? And how easy it was to confuse the surround to a Fiat logo, with that of the Jaguar logo. How many of us, other than a few Senior Citizens, knew that Armstrong Siddley had made a pick up, based on its saloon, and called it a Typhoon?
Teams of two or three members were organised - With team names like Hagley Hooligans, Quaffing Diablos, Reliant Rebels, Wheel Nuts and Three Old Birds and a Cat* it was obviously going to be a rowdy evening. It was noted that a certain ladies team* seemed to have a fourth member but all claimed they knew very little about motoring.
We got off to a good start at 8pm and all went very well until there was a very brief interruption, when the noise made by the hail falling on the roof drowned Tony’s voice. Apart from that, a very competitive event took place and when the sheets were checked there was a tie-breaker between the four top teams but the ShACC team, Three Blind Men, having some slight age advantage, pipped the others by one point. Well done Brian Rodgers and new members, John Lee and Pryce Davies.
Altogether, a most entertaining and enjoyable evening. Many thanks from all who took part and to Tony and David for having put on such an excellent do, and our sincere thanks to those members of the Hagley Club for having come along and joined us in a very competitive evening. Hopefully, there will be another event in the none too distant future in which we can all take part.

Perhaps it was because of the rain, but an opportunity was lost to photo Roger and Yoland in the open Birkin, they having believed the forecast and didn't take the hood.
