ShACC organised a visit to the Oswestry Men’s
Shed on 15th May. Most people started from the correct lay-by in West
Felton and, after a short run, all cars managed to negotiate the
confusing Showground to find the shed.
The Shed movement started in Australia on the premise that men left to
their own devices don’t talk to each other on such things as mental
health problems. However, when they are side by side at a work bench
they will interact.
The Oswestry shed, or rather several sheds, houses a wide range of
tools and equipment from hand tools to lathes plus a “clean” room and a
room for refreshments. They have about 60 members and the activities
range from mending a gate to art. It clearly provides help to a lot of
men and made for a very interesting visit.
After the visit the party made its way to the Stonehouse brewery for lunch where the unusual food has some Australian barbecue influence. And of course some good beer.
